[Dailydrool] Does anyone else have a hound that does this?

I know I am a slave in training (will be for the rest of my life) and I
have a question for other droolers. Does anyone else have a hound that
refuses to eat a meal until a treat is given first? The treat is not
always consumed prior to the meal but he has got to have it in his dish
before he will eat. He is a rescue and has been with me going on 3
years. This has only started happening over the past 4 months or so.
Before that he was ok getting his treat later in the evening. He eats
by himself, so he doesn't have to protect it from the other boys trying
to take it. The other 3 get a treat later in the evening and he is ok
with that - he doesn't try to take them away. It isn't any big deal but
It just cracks me up that he WILL NOT eat until the treat is there. I
have tried letting him go hungry to see if that will prompt him to eat.
But it doesn't. I'm just amazed that he is so stubborn about it. I
shouldn't be considering how many decades I have been owned by Bassets.
I finally caved and started putting a piece of chicken jerky across the
top of his food at night (which is acceptable to him).

Maybe it is the bland presentation of the food that he objects to. I
wonder if he got a peek at Elder Clara's cookbook and saw the
illustrations. Hmmm. Perhaps you would like a bit of parsley with that
meal, Sir?
