Ernest is home resting in his crate. He just picked at his dinner. He is on muscle relaxants and Deramaxx. I'm not entirely convinced its his back but we will watch and see. He was a little tender. The films were really benign with marginal narrowing of a couple of disc spaces and no spurring. Much better than I would expect in any 8 year old Basset. Of course they don't show what is going on with the disc but there are no focal neurological signs so I don't see getting more aggressive yet. I still question if there is a central component. He is still pacing - walked continuous circles around my legs at the vet and was just constantly moving here until I crated him. When I picked him up I walked him a little and he just followed me, no sniffing or peeing, but he peed in the car on the ride home. He's never done that before. He is very well house broken. Still something odd but will let him lay low for a couple of days and see how it goes.

The other bit of news is that we are adding to the family again this weekend. Hansel is an 8 year old St. Bernard whose owners are moving and need to "get rid of him". He has had minimal vet care, has arthritis and bad hips, and is almost completely blind from juvenile cataracts that were never addressed. He will be put down if he gets taken to the shelter and I figure he deserves to know he matters at some point in his life. I'm set up for seniors and have one blind dog, so it should be a good place for him. I go to pick him up on Sat.

With luck Ernest will be feeling better by this weekend and we will all make a nice adjustment.
