I got a call from Dawn at Daphneyland yesterday. She told me to sit down, that she had something to tell me. It turns out that Holly's previous owner had called Dawn and asked about Holly. They were not interested in getting her back, just wanted to make sure that she had found a good home. Dawn gave me their phone number and I called them last night.

It turns out that Holly is a year older than we thought she was. The couple bought her in 2004 when she was a very young puppy. The lady had to feed her formula in the beginning, that's how young she was.

The couple lived in Mississippi at the time, close to an alligator farm. They were driving home one day and saw a woman by the fence of the gator farm with a bag in her hand. The woman noticed that the bag was moving and stopped the car. It turns out that Holly and her sister were in that bag, the womas was going to feed them to the gators. Holly got purchased, I couldn't even ask about the other puppy :(

Holly's dad was in the Navy and was out to sea when Katrina hit. Holly was with her new mom and spent 3 days without water to drink. Holly's mom was also ready to give birth. They were lucky and found someone to drive them to the Naval hospital in Florida. Holly stayed with a couple of Navy guys while her mom was in the hospital giving birth. They family had lost everything and moved back to California when dad came home. When it was apparent that they couldn't care for Holly the dad took her to Daphneyland.

I spoke to the woman for almost an hour last night. She has promised to email me Holly's baby pics, and I emailed her some current photos of Holly. She also promised to give me the exact date that they got Holly, she said that her husband had it written down somewhere. I don't know that I will change the day that I celebrate Holly's birthday, but I would still like to know. Looks like my girl got rescued a few times in her young life.
