For the record.....I use this med on practically everything that looks as
though it requires some anti-bacterial attention. I worked in the ER many
moons ago when it was first available for burns. We used to bring a gob of
it home in biopsy containers and plaster it on everything. Of course, there
is the Sulfa component that causes allergic reaction in some people, but I
have used it on cats, dogs, birds, fish and a pot belly pig.....virtually
anything that over the counter Neosporin won't touch. I even did a daily
photographic journal on a particularly purulent sore on one of my dogs and
submitted it to the pharmaceutical company for review. It's a great
medication and though a prescription is required, it does not have to be
purchased in large amounts. However, do not use it on otherwise "clean"
suture lines (post operative with no infection present) because like any
ointment, it can impede the healing process on an otherwise healthy incision
site.
