[Dailydrool] Lyme Vaccine

We lived in CT for 13 years and moved to NC 18 months ago. A Lyme Vaccine is a necessity in CT and I wish they had one for humans. It's a terrible disease. However, even with the vaccine, it's still possible for a dog to get Lyme. Our vet told us that she's yet to hear of a NC dog that got Lyme from a NC deer tic. That being said, she's seen many dogs with Lyme that moved from another state or went to visit another state where Lyme infected deer tics live. Gallagher had been vaccinated for Lyme before we moved to NC. At his first check up in NC, he tested positive for Lyme. Thankfully, it was in the early stages and a few weeks of antibiotics put him on the mend. He tested negative at this year's check. Our other dogs did not get Lyme and I'm sure would have without the vaccine. I know several people that have had the disease and untreated it's just dreadful. Lyme tics are throughout the northeast and have been seen as far south as Virginia. I'm sure they've found their way further south. A dog can have Lyme for a while and you won't even know it until they have more severe symptoms - then it's hard to treat. I'm glad that our vet still checks for Lyme - even in NC and even on vaccinated dogs!
