[Dailydrool] The Last Avocado From the Avocado Tree

Well, it finally came, the moment Speedy dreaded, the avocado season is over and the last fruit plucked.
We were considerate and offered him the last fruit. He reacted by stuffing the whole thing in his mouth and running away to a secluded spot where no one would bother him. Or so he thought.
When we tossed him the last fruit, we forgot about Rambo, who saw Speedy grab the fruit and run off. Rambo looked so longingly that I had to go chase Speedy down so I could split it. 
And chased I did. He ran like no other. I had forgotten how fast he can run. He ran from one corner of the yard to the other like lightning. After running, he tried hiding. He tried to hide under a bush, behind the compost, around the trash bins, but I did not relent. He growled and grumbled, I even thought I was taking a risk and he might bite me (but he IS the sweetest dog and would never do it although his threat was very convincing) At last I was able to grab him but then had to devise a way to unlock died-lock jaw grip from the fruit. I somehow managed. I split the last avocado and fed it to Rambo and Speedy. 
Surprisingly Speedy did not take his half to hide and eat secretively. I think he knew he had a whole one when we tossed it and wasn't about to share an entire avocado. 
They both munch contently, but right after Speedy went on the hunt for another. I haven't had the heart to tell him that the season is over.  Maybe next year before Speedy stuffs the avocados down his greedy little throat, I can sell them as a fundraiser - there's a thought....
