When it rains or snows a lot here in Missouri, I separate my 4 bassets and give them giant rawhides to gnaw on under supervision.  If the pieces get too small, I trade for a small treat and throw out the offending rawhide bit.  My puppy Winston especially likes the rawhide, and if he doesn't have access to this goody he will eat his dog bed or my dry wall!
