Others in the DD family,

I wanted to share an event that happened today to our family. My  
daughter and I took the Bassets and drove to a Petco a town over from  
us. When we got there we found many people standing around and several  
dogs behind wire fences. We attempted to walk into the store. The dogs  
were from a Husky rescue and they were blocking all the sidewalks,  
some of the parking, and the entrance. We did not realize that they  
were blocking everything until we were walking up to the store. A  
Husky lunged at my 8 year old daughter and tried to bite her. She had  
not attempted to do anything other than walk herself and her basset  
around to get into the store. I grabbed her and pulled her back. The  
basset freaked out and backed out of her collar and ran. She ran into  
the parking lot and was almost hit by two cars. I backed my daughter  
away, handed her the other dog's leash and ran to get her dog. A  
bystander ran to my daughter's aide and took her and the other dog out  
of the area because the rest of the huskies started to bark, take  
standing positions and a few started to jump on their fences.
Thank doG!  Sassy was not hit, but terrified she was. I was terrified.
I immediately got back to me daughter to find what this woman had done  
to protect her and my other dog. I thanked her. The Husky rescue  
people laughed and thought it was funny that my dog was almost hit.
I went into the store to talk to the store manager. He was not helpful  
and did not seem to care so much. The dogs were terrorized and my  
daughter wet herself. She did not tell me this until later.

PLEASE be very careful going or shopping at a PETCO. There appear to  
be little restrictions or rules with dogs in front of their stores. I  
will never be shopping at a Petco again. I went there so my daughter  
could buy some toys for the dogs, not to be almost killed, maimed, or  
humiliated. I am looking into this matter further and a letter will be  
send to corporate offices tomorrow. The manager has been put on notice  
about all of this again by my husband. Please do not let this happen  
to you or your family. Petco may want to help, but without rules or  
regulations that are upheld, someone will get hurt!  Do not let it be  
YOU!
