With the deepest sorrow, I report that Admiral Sir Belvedere, head of the BABES fleet, has sailed off to the Bridge.

Belvedere, or Bel, as he was known to friends and family, was born in a Missouri puppymill and had at least three short-term homes before he sailed into the lives of Pam and Drew McQuade.

Bel entered the McQuade household as a foster. Though Pam had told Tri-State she was not looking for a second dog, he took one look at her and knew he was home for good. Early troubles with separation anxiety and minor food aggression issues notwithstanding, he was adopted and became a happy, secure hound--especially when he was at Pam's side. He adored and was adored by Lady Jane, his companion for ten years. Rumors concerning their relationship have never been substantiated, and since both were fixed before coming into the McQuade household, certainly nothing came of it. Insteas he and Jane founded the Dashing Bassets pack and graciously put up with many fosters over the years.

Because of his penchant for cybersailing, the BABES made Belvedere admiral of their imaginary fleet. Before the BABES/OEBE were removed to the Drool boards, he led many cyber adventures to places around the globe (and who knows where he sailed when he was not leading the BABES on adventures).

Belvedere came into the McQuades' lives just before 9/11/01. It has been a wonderful ten years, and both dog and humans wish it could have been longer, but at age fourteen, Bel lived a very long and successful life. Though his vets did the best to extend that life, arthritis and the subsequent back disease that came with it led to his demise.

Belvedere is joining Alexis Thefairyprincess and Abner Ahrooo at the Bridge. The admiral may also be reunited with the household cats, Tuck and Trixie. He is extremely sorry that in Tuck's last year on earth he ran after the cat and slobbered the back of his neck when he caught him, but Bel knows there will be no hard feelings.
