[Dailydrool] color blindness

No dog are not color blind at all. This is an old story that has been proven
to be incorrect. They do not have the same kinds of cones in their eyes that
people do, so the colors that they see are not the same. Red is almost
impossible for them to see. The colors they do see are basically yellow,
blue and grey. Green colors, yellows and similarly orange appear as sandy
yellow. Some others are seen as shades of those colors--light blue, dark
yellow etc.
Probably the best color for toys would be yellow or blue. Two of the most
popular toys in the house are a yellow chicken (Altho I think it is the
sound they like) and a blue monkey. The worst fight I have had for months
was between Cooper and Conley over the blue monkey.

Obviously they have other methods of identifying objects. My DH this morning
suggested that he wants me to find a costume shop where they have a costume
of a Giant Milk Bone. He contends that is how the Bassets see him, and wants
to wear it into the house someday to see if their reaction is any different
than when he walks in in jeans and sweatshirt. I think he is only
half-kidding. He may not be kidding at all....
