When we got Flash at 3 months old I was younger and living with my mother. "No
dogs on the furniture! " Until our other dog passed away and then she said Flash
was depressed and letting him on the couch and sleep in bed was helping him.
Well he took full advantage of that until he came to my apartment when I was in
vet school. For the most part he was a good boy with the couches but when my
boyfriend at the time (now fiance) moved in he was not so happy. Mind you he
had no problems with him visiting - just moving in. Then we got the puppy who
was good until a year or so ago when he started attacking Flash and guarding
things so since then no dogs on the couches. Plus Flash started leaking urine
in his sleep and although he is on PPA he still does from time to time. For
training purposes there is nothing better than keeping them off furniture and of
course I'm super scared he will rupture a disc. I'm not that good of a basset
slave anyway. No table food, no begging, I don't respond to demands on my
attention, etc. But right now he is trying to get my attention by making little
groaning noises from across the room and staring intently at me, while he is sun
bathing by the back door. Sometimes it's hard and I give in. When anyone goes
into the kitchen he expects an ice cube. I normally don't get him one, my
fiance normally does. But sometime he is so damn cute about it, and he is
older, I feel bad not giving him one. Sometimes I wish that I had hounds draped
around me while I was watching TV or reading a good book. But I can still love
my dogs very much and not let them on the furniture.
So many Drools to read so few days off from work to read them!
