[Dailydrool] Bubba update

We've been force-feeding Bubba for 2 days now. According to my vet, with the
meds he's on, he should start becoming interested in food by today or
Sunday. This morning he drank broth on his own, but we're still having to
force-feed him the canned food we received from the vet. The vet, who we
absolutely respect for various reasons (he's fresh out of school and is the
only one I've seen so far that actually understands Bassets and he's the
only vet Pierre has ever went to that he didn't try to kill!!) has insisted
we need to feed at least a can of that food on top of whatever else we can
shove down him a day. Hanni suggested Karo syrup due to inconsistencies in
insulin levels due to his illness. Bubba ate that on his own as well. She
was kind enough to call me off list to tell me her and ChilliPepper's story.
I realize that every dog is different, but not so much sometimes. We've
tried homemade food, treats, cat food, vet food, broth, etc. The only thing
so far that he's eaten on his own is the broth and the syrup this morning.
It's a start. He's allowing us to force-feed him and swallowing on his own
now sometimes. Before, I had to stroke his throat every time. It's a start.
I love this dog and will do everything I can to keep him alive!! He's not
had a great life before and I can't let him die now if I can help it.

To everyone who's given me advice, drool and prayers, thank you so much.
Please keep Bubba in your thoughts and keep the drool coming! I believe in
its power. Also, keep the puppies and parents that came into MBR recently in
your thoughts and prayers. They're sick and having had a puppy with Parvo, I
know how upsetting it is to have a baby sick and not know what to do. The
foster-parents must be worried sick.
