[Dailydrool] Pet Meds and Vets - Good & bad

Internet "pharmacies" ... they are held to the same standards, if they are
legitimate. Their requirements are set by the state they do business in.

http://www.avma.org/advocacy/state/issues/prescription_drug_regulation.asp

However, we found no state beside Missouri that has expressly or implicitly
determined, either legislatively or judicially, that veterinary legend drugs
may
be dispensed by non-regulated individuals.

Efficacy, Wrong Dates, Mislabeled, Recalled meds .. NO GOOD Company is going
to deliberately do bad things to you, they want customers coming back, they
want to do the right thing, and good companies have low "error" rates... but
they do have errors just like any other company or pharmacy would. Feeding
on people's fears uncertainties and doubts only hurts the Veterinarian and
their clients, because the clients will come to resent and have distrust for
a Vet that fosters FUD. (FUD --- Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt)

http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm048164.htm

FDA recommends working with pharmacies that are VIPPS accredited (VIPPS -
Veterinary/Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites) or with Veterinary
Outsourced Prescription Services ... the two ... are veterinarian approved,
because of "face time" ... Vets have met people, or read up on that
site/group to identify that they *are* responsible.

Lets look at the HUMAN pharmacies.. When was the last time anyone was told
NOT to go to walmart's pharmacy?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,385082,00.html
Walmart Pharmacy blamed for 18 year old in coma - Wrong dose

Or there's the ABC News 20/20 report from 2007 ... 22% error rate. One in
Five dispensed wrong.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/03/results_of_the_.html

Additional stories including wrongful death
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/pharmacy_investigation/

And I could go on ... but the facts are the same .. it can happen whether
there is "face time" or not, whether the Vet, some service the Vet has
investigated and feels relatively sure/trusting of ... or not. The simple
fact is, there can be good places on the net to get meds from, it only robs
Vets that don't have good alternatives ... and in the days where people are
barely making it, a Veterinarian that refuses to help their clients save ..
is going to loose a client.

Subject: [Dailydrool] Pet Meds and Vets

I perfer to work with human pharamcies when we can actually use human meds
as they are trustworthy, safe places to get meds. Having said that they
have sent home the wrong insulin before and the dog almost died. PetMeds
and those places scare me more as they are not held to the same standards.
There have been issues with medications that weren't brand name (Iverhart)
being recalled for problems. They have sold the wrong or expired
medications before as well.
