[Dailydrool] Drool for Poppy and Daisy

About a month ago I saw two basset hound bitches "free to a good home" posted on Preloved, which is like Craigslist. It said they were 4 and 6 and had all their papers. I e-mailed them and asked them to reconsider this method of disposal, warning the pups might spend the rest of their lives in a puppy farm. I gave my phone number and begged them to consider Basset Hound Welfare.
No response.
Yesterday I got a text and voicemail. The short version of what happened next is:  they rehomed the dogs themselves, but the new owner's kid was frightened of them. They "had" to pick them up that day, but couldn't take them home because their kid was allergic.
The short version of the next 20 phone calls and favour-calling, while I was at work during a very busy time, was finding someone who agreed to foster, but after 8pm when they returned from work.
Then the 'owner' didn't bother answering my calls. Finally I managed to get hold of her MIL, (long story), only to be told not to worry, an all-breed rescue was taking them. This was not good news, as for some reasons the rescues here don't work together and those poor pups (who are bonded) would probably be separated and just passed on to anyone. They might be lucky. They might not. But BHW would not be able to get them into our care.
I used my best cajoling techniques. MIL was impressed. I gave her the address for the foster home. 30 minutes later DIL rings saying it was a bit difficult to drop off the dogs and could someone pick them up?
Still missing out yards of this story, two little basset bitches arrived at their foster home at about 10pm last night. One is a delightful girl who would find a home easily, the other is a tiny girl with a broken tail who is scared of everything.
I know you who work in rescue know this story and many worse, but I really wish they had responded to my offer a month ago and we could have saved these poor girls from being shovelled around like that - and given us all time to do things properly in a relaxed manner.
Anyway, please send a little "find a lovely home together" drool to Poppy and Daisy. And if any UK droolers are needing a bonded pair right now . . . . you know who to e-mail!
Sally, with Rolph and Clara, UK (who don't yet know I'm off to Greece tomorrow and they are staying here with their 2-leg sisters)
