My Fiona Is at the end of her infection. It began in september with an
overwhelmingly foul odor in her ears. My vet cultured & diagnosed the
pseudomonas then referred me to an ear & allergy specialist because this
is so hard to kill.

The specialist examined Fiona then performed a double myrongotomy i. e.
she popped both eardrums & cleaned out the inner ear, then put her on a
very expensive medication (Zeniquin). It didn't work, so we next went
to chloramphenicol coupled with drops (Keto + Amikacin). I also did
regular cleanings + a biweekly flush with a bulb syringe. She had me
switch to EpiOtic Advanced. The flush involved a 50/50 mixture of
EpiOtic & water.

At one point she also gave me drops of the chloramphenicol in addition
to the tablets.

Fiona went every 2 weeks to get her ears cultured from October through
April. Twice, the vet flushed them.

We stopped the oral antibiotics about 2 months ago as her numbers had
dropped significantly, but kept up the drops. Finally both ears showed
no bacteria for a month. We kept going with the drops, though.

Fiona finished the drops 2 weeks ago and is still bacteria free. We saw
the vet Tuesday and now don;t have to go back for 2 months. I have to
continue flushing twice a week.

This was a long road and I can tell you there were many tears. I'd take
her in and her numbers were down then 2 weeks later they'd be up. I
feared it would never go away, but. thank goodness, it seems to be gone
for good.

I wish you luck and hope this provides some helpful information. Feel
free to ask more specific questions if you'd like.
