[Dailydrool] Fertilizer question

I *think* it depends on the fertilizer he used.  If he used a weed and feed then
that is much more dangerous than say a 16-16-16 all purpose fertilizer.  The all
purpose fertilizer we use on our fruit trees 2x yearly.  It needs to be watered
REALLY well and once absorbed watered again to fully dilute it.  We usually
avoid picking fruit for about a week (they are citrus and have fruit year round)
but the folks at the nursery say we're overly careful.

If he used anything with an herbacide in it (weed and feed, halts crab grass
remover, et al) then that's a real problem as simply sniffing it can cause a
horrible reaction (eyes swelled shut, systemic shut down and worse ... it
happened to my Sweet Maggie (ATB) once after a sniffy walk ... we never knew
which neighbor used it on their front lawn).  An emergency trip to the vet
followed where she got benedryl and prednisone brought her back from the brink
the time this happened..

Good luck,
Dale

I've always refused to use any chemicals on my lawn because Basil likes to graze
(as did Waldo before him.) Just this evening, my neighbor kindly informed me
that he had fertilized his lawn, and that when he did the fence line, a good
chunk of my land got covered as well by the spreader. I'm really pissed, to say
the least. He claims that it'll be perfectly safe as soon as it rains and the
pellets dissolve; is this true? I was always under the impression that the
fertilizer was absorbed by the soil and then sucked up by the growing grass,
which would mean that any grass that's in that area would be poisonous to eat.

Can anyone clarify which of us is correct? I'm not sure what I can do about it
if I'm right, short of having to go out with Basil every single time he goes out
to make sure that he doesn't attempt to graze. And how long would it be before
the fertilized grass "grows out"?

Thanks,

Esther and Basil (who will be missing his daily trips to the salad bar...)
