[Dailydrool] Musical chew-chews

A chew-chew is a rawhide roll, in case you were wondering. Our Anna is a
chewer, she loves chewing on bones, rawhides, bully sticks, you name it. We
don't do bully sticks much because they are expensive, and contrary to what
you might hear about how long they last, Anna can completely devour one of
any size in about an hour.

Okay, so I buy chicken flavored rolled rawhides for Anna, and throw them out
in the yard for her to find. She will not touch them if you take them out
of the package and hand them to her, apparently they only taste good if
they've been hidden in the flowers or bushes for at least several days. A
good coating of mud and leaf mold is preferred, it makes such a nice mess on
the floor. So there's a rawhide that she's found several times, brought in
and then abandoned in the kitchen. It's been laying on the kitchen floor
for almost two weeks. Tonight, it was suddenly seasoned properly and she
started chewing. After an hour or so she usually stops for a few minutes to
go outside and pee. What you might not know is, Holly the Dolly is lurking,
pretending to be asleep, but covertly watching Anna and the chewer. Holly
WANTS that chewer. So when Anna gets up to go pee, Holly gets the rawhide
that has been partially chewed (and softened up, Holly does not have great
teeth), and starts chewing on it. In comes Anna, and she freezes. Holly
has her chewer!!!

Now we all know that Sister Anna is a menace when it comes to food, she'll
steamroll anybody out of their food dish. Apparently rawhide chews do NOT
count as food, and Anna will not steal her rawhide back. Instead she lays
down about 8 inches from Holly, gets a sad expression on her face, and
watches Holly work on the chewer. Since Holly does not have great teeth,
she only chews for maybe 15 minutes, then gets up and moves to her chair or
bed. At which time Anna lays there staring at the (contaminated) chewer for
about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the cooties are apparently gone, and Anna
starts chewing again. With Holly faking sleep and covertly watching. And
so it goes, all evening long and into the night.

Where is Gracie? She has the best choppers of all of them, but has never
been one to chew anything. So Gracie is watching the spectacle unfold when
she is not sleeping. Mama is also not fond of rawhide chews, and is
watching the goings-on with amusement. Anna loves to chew, and Holly loves
to steal the chewer and hide it in the back yard. And so the cycle
continues. A good time is had by all.

Mama and the Girls send drool to everyone who needs it, and condolences to
everyone who has recently lost a 4-legged friend or a human one. It's 46
degrees outside (in Texas this is very frigid weather) and all the kitties
have gone to bed. Which is where Gracie and I are going. Anna and Holly
are busy.
