[Dailydrool] Desperate for UTI help

Lisa - I've had the same issues with my female Bassett, Chloe. She's 2
1/2 now and we still struggle. I try not to feed her any food or treats
that could contain allergens (wheat, etc) and we still struggle. I'm
convinced, for Chloe, the UTI's begin as fungal because fungicides always
help...but it always comes back. I can usually sense when she's about to
have an 'episode' because her nose and flews will smell 'off' and she has a
low-grade fever. My vet has allowed us to keep a prescription for
Fluconizole and when I 'think' she is beginning to have an episode (usually
the smelly nose/flews) give it away, we start the Fluconizole for 4-5 days.
I've wiped her bottom every time she comes in from a potty run, but alas,
eventually it doesn't help anymore. Oh, we also use Pharmaceb shampoo for
every bathtime (once a week) and clean the 'nether-regions' especially
well. We've tried all kinds of Cranberry items and even a probiotic.... No
change for us.

If you haven't tried an anti-fungal, you may want to discuss it with your
vet to see if it alleviates Wednesday's problem. We have staved off the
dreaded UTI for almost a year this time....but I think we are about out of
luck. My theory is that the problem begins as a fungal infection (yeast)
and the girlie parts get itchy, which causes much licking of the area and
eventually a UTI.

My vet believes Chloe needs surgery (lady tuck) to remove some of the skin
around her girlie parts... I don't want to put her through this if it
isn't the solution. But like you, I'm at wits' end ... We've been to the
vet sooooo many times for this, I'm ready to try the surgery the next time.

I hope this gives you some things to discuss with your vet. Best wishes
for Wednesday!

Maureen

I'm reaching out for help, advice just anything. My Wednesday is having
recurring UTI's. Our vet referred us to a specialist and he is thinking it
may be allergy related. They did an ultrasound and saw nothing. She has to
stay on antibiotics because if she goes off them[and this last time she
made it 2 days] she has to go back on them. I am just so depressed and
worried about her plus all the cultures, bloodwork, tests are is draining
me financially. She is no better than when we started. She gets an allergy
work up with an allergist Monday but, I just don't know what I'm going to
do. I'm thinking a 3 month long-term antibiotic this time in that maybe it
has settles deep and needs meds longer. I read where a drooler used baby
wipes on her hound and that has helped so, I'm doing that now when she
comes in from pottying. Words cannot express how devastating it is having
your hound not able to get well. I am just so sad and worried about her.
Fortunately, she feels good and is full of herself. She is eating and
drinking as usual. Lisa, Wednesday and Booty
