[Dailydrool] A dangerous encounter between Data and Visiting dobermans

I had a very pleasant weekend spent with my friend and her darling little 3
yr old, Isabella. No dog were involved because they tend to overwhelm
Isabella.

Coming home into the garage, I noticed that Bill was not home. As I
struggled with our laundry basket that serves to transport our clothes from
one house to the other, I was overwhelmed myself by the 3 dogs: Roland,
Truman, and Databeta, (version F.1.).

I missed getting the garage automatic door closed before the thundering paws
could make a quick escape from the laundry room to the great outdoors!
Actually, Truman missed the great escape entirely, as he was taking a nap on
one of the beds. Roland and Data made it through to the street.

Roland came to me quickly when I called him. No sight or sound of Data.
So, after swearing like a sailor, I got a leash and chain collar and hit the
roads with my car. Up and down, back and forth. Still no sign of the evil
one.

I returned to make "lost dog" signs to put up ASAP. Please understand my
mixed feelings about getting sweet little Data back in our home vs. having
the little b*x$3% irretrievably lost. With the lost part, no more driving
around the neighborhood looking for the little beast and taking off on foot
with 2 "SCENT HOUNDS" who can't seem to catch Data's scent.

Anyway, as a last resort I leashed up Truman and Roland and tried to get
them into the car. Just then, Data rushes out as 2 leashed dobermans pass
by on leash. I can't get both bassets into my car with all the
distractions. Data, showing the his immense capacity to problem-solve,
charges at the dobermans. The people handling the dobies are screaming at
me to get my dog as one of the dobies "is a killer." I stuff the bassets
into the car.

Meanwhile, one of the dobermans picks up Data by the neck, but drops him at
a human command. The woman gives me a lecture about being a responsible
dog owner while we are getting Data back to his house.

As the people with the Dobies had one of those huge cargo trailers with no
windows, multitudes of boxes, and two big dog crates, I was a little
curious about the possibility of the dobies being fighting dogs. I drove
down the street with my homeboys Roland and Truman, and noticed that the
dobie people were packing up the trailer. Another talk with the woman
ensued. After she made several remarks as to my fitness as a dog owner, I
mostly apologized while asking whether they think it's a good idea to have
huge dogs walking on leash in a neighborhood where there are small children,
cats, and other prey.

I go for a walk with my 2 fairly compliant dogs while Data waits happily for
us at home. I hate bassets.

Data needs training, clearly, but what kind? He is getting better at no
barking, but takes off like an idiot when he catches a scent. As we have a
fully fenced backyard, he is usually allowed in the back, and in the front
only on a leash.
