  Yesterday I took Nigel as an emergency to the U of WIsconsin. The trip would have been hilarious in another context and maybe someday it will be anyway.
  The neurologist and orthopedist examined him and did xrays and determined that there is NOTHING that they can do for him. Surgery will not, in all likeliehood, work. He is in a less than 5% group for whom surgery is helpful-- not even curative but helpful. Unfortunately, Nigel is also completely incontinent. He is also very snarky.(Not that I blame him.)
  I brought him home.
  We will make him comfy for a bit.
  And then he will join his Mother, Zelda, and he can go tracking again and she can be reuinited with one of her children. There is no timetable on this. My husband is shattered beyond imaging. He needs time.
  Thank you all for your drool and cards, and thoughts, and love and caring. It has been so appreciated. I wish I had better news for you all. I wish I had better news for Nigel.

  PS. We have NOT put Nigel down yet. I am not sure when this will happen. Soon, but I do not want to rush John, who is so crushed.
