[Dailydrool] anxiety?

I have a 7 yr. old Basset named Stuart. He has always been a delightful dog.
This last week he is having separation anxiety I think. He will break out of the baby gate (the Bldhnd with him just lies there wondering what is going on) when I go out and leave them.
And when I put him behind the gate, he starts panting heavily with his tongue lolling out.
And at night he whines continuously. He has never whined before.
When I am home he is fine, just his normal self.
Any solution what to do? I need my sleep, I don't function well getting shortchanged on it.
I wondered if there is some over the counter anxiety relief medication any of you have had any luck with.
Maybe we both should take it!
