First of all, the hounds here are flinging drool to all those who need it, 2
leggers & 4 leggers alike!

Next, Joey has a 'repawt' on the happenings of last night. I'll let him tell
the story:

Hewo, dis be Joey. Me an Emma need ta file for da houndie abuse!! We momma
done twied to drown we!! Yes she did!! Hers heard there be a 'doggie
swimmie' at da people pool here inna apartment complex. We dunno why, but
hers fink dis maybe fun, so we get inna da people pool! I nearly drowned,
yes I did! Emma too! Her's got like 4 inch wong wegs!! No way we be da
swimmy swimmy!! But, dere be some nice peoples dere, what help we escape, so
we runned & pwayed & ahrooooed at da udder dogs (what not be hounds, so we
knows dey gotta be just dogs!) And, we hab wots ob fun! Da momma eben got we
inna da locker room, where I raided da twash! Momma no be happy, though,
somefing about iffen I steals da baby diaper what smellt REALLY GOOD! Dat I
be inna water again... I no believe da momma... I nab da diaper... Momma
stoled it, and I back inna da pool... Dis really is houndie abuse!! Momma
say me tail a good rudder, an me ears good flotation device! I say I bite
hers in hers sleep & poop inna hers shoe! Emma still tired, so she can no
add to da story. I gonna go & beg for da dinner bowl, hope no more baths for
a month!!

Okay Joey, let me explain what REALLY happened! My apartment complex has 2
outdoor pools, one 'family pool' that has a 3' end (with the big steps that
go up to the side for easy escape) and also an 8' deep 'deep end,' and a
kidney shaped 'adult pool' that in secluded behind our clubhouse & has
excellent views of the sunset. Anyway, the pools officially closed for the
season on monday night, because memorial day marks the end of the season.
The complex decided to listen to the dog owners, and offer a 'dog swim' at
the family pool for 2 hrs yesterday evening. There were probably about 8-12
dogs all total, with 2 labs & a lab mix that would NOT leave the water!!
They were all about jumping in & doing a half bellyslide in. I did get Joey
& Emma in a few times, Joey actually made a pretty good distance! But, he
was headed towards the deep end, so I had to turn him around. Both he & Emma
were ALWAYS leashed, which helped so that I could do 'resistance swimming,'
so they could still do the swimming, but I could make sure they didn't
drown, and helped them to float nicely. Well, it helped Joey to swim nicely,
Emma needed a hand under her neck &/or under her belly to stay completely
upright; she's more 'bassety shaped,' with the big barrel chest and
literally about 4" long legs! (with her 'belly mohawk,' she nearly drags the
ground she's such a low rider!!) So, I had to be extra careful with her.
After a little bit, they got out (using the nice, wide, dog friendly steps)
and started running around w/their leashes on, chasing the other dogs that
were chasing a ball. A few passing teens (who were quite well behaved! (We
have some hooligans in the complex!) and knew the lady running the event)
stopped in, and were throwing a ball across the pool, trying to get the dogs
to jump into the water. What mostly happened was that 4 or 5 dogs (Emma &
Joey included) would run around like crazy & chase the teens & the ball. The
pool is completely fenced in, so it was okay for them to run around like
that! All the dogs had fun, even my 2 (that claim houndie abuse for the
giant bath!) photos of the event are posted here:
http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc91/tequie99/Dogs/ if anyone would like
to see them. The hounds were quite a sight, let me tell you! You've seen the
'bath crazies,' well, that's nothing compared to the 'swim crazies'!!
