[Dailydrool] Showtime

Today was an interesting day for me.  Hubert stayed home with Grandma while my DH and I went to the dog show.  We spent about 4 hours there with our breeder who was showing.  I got to watch and assist a little, holding and preparing the bassets.  This is a learning opportunity for me as Hubert will be shown when he is of age, if all goes well.  I never in a million years thought I would do this, but I am enjoying the process so far.  For any of you wondering about this, it is mighty hard work.  We were only there for half of the final day and my legs and back were killing me when we left.  I might add here that my other hobby is running half marathons so I like to consider myself reasonably fit.lol.  I met some genuinely nice folks, and some very beautiful dogs. My DH enjoyed watching me try to hold a fully grown Basset on the grooming table while he was being primpted. It was almost as entertaining as our nightly game of show dog, which consists of me trying to stack Hubert while he does his best impression of Jello.  It's hard to believe that my little Hubert who is trying to eat my sofa as I type this, will one day be a big proud show doggie.  The highlight was watching one of my breeders Bassets take Best of Breed.  In 3 weeks time we start to practice in earnest with some handling classes for me...oh boy...this should be highly entertaining.
