Having a sister that works at our vet - I hear lots of stories of
clinic staff and their 4-legged clients. Oh the bites, scratches, the
crazy clients, etc.

If my dog needs a muzzle, I would rather do it than the clinic staff.
I guess in my mind I'm sending my dog a message that the muzzle is
okay. When my GSD Wolfgang growled at the vet, I demanded a muzzle
and I put it on him. The vet assistant informed me that I couldn't -
the vet handed me the muzzle. When I explained why I wanted to do it,
the vet agreed that I did the right thing. Wolfgang didn't fight me
about the muzzle - he accepted it calmly. If the dog needs a muzzle
- do it.

There was one time at the vet clinic where the vet assistant said
she'll go get a muzzle for one of our bassets. She was concerned that
the dog might bite if she accidently hurt the dog during the nail
trim. The vet without missing a beat said you don't need to worry
about the dog biting - the owner will bite if you hurt her dog.
