[Dailydrool] Planning ahead question

Hello all. First and foremost I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to all who have lost a precious baby recently.

I have been slowly moving through the pain of losing my Harry. I was finally able to move his bed out of my living room. Mind you, it is still out, along with his toys, leash and colllars, etc, but I felt like it was a step forward. My husband got me a beautiful picture of him for Christmas so I framed it and he is now resting on a table with the picture, his collar and his pawprint. It brings me a sense of peace to be able to walk by and see his beautiful face and give his box a rub. And now that I am not looking back quite as much, I have started to look forward. I am seriously considering getting a puppy after we return from our vacation in June. I can’t believe I’m considering this, as for years I swore I would never do the puppy stage again. But, we have ferrets that are out to play for several hours a day and speaking from experience, I think it may be easier to raise a puppy with these animals running around then to worry about how an older dog would react to them. Since we also have a history of fosters in and out of the house as well as an occasional visitor, I think a puppy is the way to go. SO, how do I go about finding a Basset puppy? Should I fill out applications with the local rescues to be put on a list if a puppy comes in? Of course I will check out the shelters but I know chances are low one will be around. Most of the shelters where we live have pit bulls and not much else. I would also consider a reputable breeder but am unsure of where to find one. I live in eastern PA and am not aware of any locally. I’m looking for some advice, please.

Thanks in advance!
