 Hi Basset Folks,
Monday, I was buying dog food and a carrot cake at CostCo and a gentleman approached me and started discussing the Salmon and Sweet Potato grain free food.  Then out of the blue, he told me that he and his wife had just adopted their first basset hound boy and that they now know they can never live without a Basset!!!!  He said that they had just had to put down their 12 year old lab that had cancer and on the way home from the vet's, he told his wife he needed to stop at the Pineallas County Animal Control.  His wife thought he was nuts to adopt a dog after having just put their lab girl to sleep.  Well, low and behold there was a big tricolored boy there and it was love at first sight for both of them.  They took him home immediately and that was the beginning of a life long love affair.  He told me he loves how his boy constantly talks to them.  He loves that!!!!
He told me that he has fostered for lab rescue in Florida for years and already owned 6 labs and a lab/great dane boy but that their basset boy has just made their pack perfect.
After he told me his story, I told him I too had bassets--three rescues.  I thought it was so strange that a perfect stranger would just start telling me about his basset!!!  Now, I think nutty basset people can pick each other out in a crowd!
He thought bassets in rescue were rare.  I set him straight and encouraged him to contact suncoast basset rescue.  Here is an interesting aside: this guy was one of the best dressed and groomed men I have ever seen!!!  His clothes were impeccably ironed with a perfect straight crease.  I thought is he perhaps too fastidious for bassets?  May be its just me...
