[Dailydrool] training question

Our LuLu came to us a real barker.  We think she'd been in a puppy mill and had 
simply been ignored.  For years.  So she barks and barks and barks and barks and 
barks.  Fortunately for us someone is home all the time.  At first it was a real 
problem.  But, over time, she is improving.  If she barks more than a couple of 
times we go and remind her that she should stop.  If it continues then we bring 
her inside and lock the dog door for 1/2 hour.  This has now gone from 20+ times 
a day to no more than once or twice.

Now, if I could only retrain my annoying neighbor.  He has reached a point where 
if he hears LuLu bark ... ONCE .... and hears me ask her to be quiet he will 
immediately pipe up ... Dale would you please just take her inside?  From over 
the fence.  On Saturday he got his just reward though.  He did this and I took 
her inside and I no sooner did than another neighbor over the BACK fence from 
him let his kids and their grandma out back .... one kid just HOWLING and 
crying, the other arguing bitterly with his grandmother .... went on for a LONG 
time .... and he did NOT have the nerve to ask them to bring their children 
inside.  Serves him right.

I don't agree with bark collars but that is simply my humble opinion.  I feel 
that the dog learns that people are sometimes mean, and NOT that it is about 
being neighborly.  I am lucky that someone is home at our house and so it is not 
a choice between loosing the dog and using a collar.  For those that insist, go 
ahead and flame me for having an opinion.  It won't be the first time.
