The houndage had their annual wellness checks at our new vet earlier this week. Well, new to Dozer anyway; Delilah Belle had made the acquaintance of the male owner of the practice several months ago when her eye issues began. She likes him and the staff. Dozer seemed content to allow his female partner to poke, prod and peer at him as well. She swabbed his ears of some wax, confirmed the very slight heart murmur which was discovered at his last exam a year ago, and otherwise proclaimed him a healthy 13 year-old, thank Dawg! She wanted to run a senior blood panel on him but was having trouble finding a vein in the midst of his "cankle" wrinkles, LOL, so deferred to their resident IV wizard, a surgery tech who could find a vein in the dark while hanging upside down, LOL. After his exam they offered him a biscuit which he refused. I found that odd...until they said "Oops, that one's low fat. Let's try this one." Of course he ate the "regular" one with great gusto. He needs a dental soon but I'll need a brief respite from the cost of their visits, flea and tick treatment, and heartworm meds to allow our bank account to recuperate, LOL.

Delilah Belle did well also. Even her ears which can get really gunky were fairly clean and showed no signs of infection. I purchased a bottle of ear cleaner anyway as it has a component which seems to cut quickly through the greasy, waxy stuff which Dozer seems to collect quickly. All of Delilah's lumps and bumps were mapped but none seemed to be cause for concern.

Their feline buddy, Big Black Bart kitty is there now getting HIS dental and most likely an extraction or two. He was off his dry food lately and drooling from the left side of his mouth, so last Thursday he saw the vet who found him otherwise healthy except for some nasty inflammation and infection around one or two of his teeth on the drooly side. He's been on antibiotics for the past three days. He seems to be feeling better but needs that nasty tooth/teeth gone. If your houndies can spare a bit of drool for him I know he'd appreciate it. He doesn't mind our crew and even tolerates "Chase the Kitty" which Delilah Belle subjects him to occasionally.

My heart goes out to all who have had to send their beloved furkids to the Bridge. So far, it seems like 2013 has been a year of great loss for both humans and hounds. Hugs and heart healing drool to those who need it.

Bev, your saga never ends. Good grief, woman! You have your hands (and stick, LOLOLOL) full. Here's hoping the DadPerson capture your possum quickly.

Hugs and snooters,
Sandi, Mamaslave to Delilah, Dozer and Big Black Bart the c at t.
