It's a cold, foggy, dreary day in Southern Oregon. And I'm not talking about
the weather. When I got home from work, Maggie d'Earest was outside, sitting
up, but unable to stand. I helped her back in the house, assisting the back
half, as she stoically managed the front half. Granted, there were several
extended pauses as she needed to stop and catch her breath. And once in the
house, she didn't want to sit around anymore, so struggling the whole time,
she made a few trips around the house checking everything out. She didn't
eat much dinner, even with her favorite chicken soup added. I knew it was
time. She was too weak to continue, so we made the final trip to Doctor
Tom's place, where we had a tearful goodbye. Maggie has passed quietly into
the evening.

For those of you who are counting, that's three in thirteen months. Yup -
it's been a very difficult year. The Original Camp White Hound Pack is gone.

The only positive note of the day, is that Leia Round and Dexter Dogstar are
healthy and happy, and will be quite helpful in keeping my spirits up.
