Everyone,

Drools and snooker kisses to all. I am sorry that I only check in when I have a problem...but I am a daily reader and enjoy each and every enry to this post, but I am also a very busy book reviewer, novel writer, and now beginning quilter. Cna read...not much of a writer, when things are going well with my beloved Basset...But..alas and alack, though, sadly, here I am with a major problem and I desparately need your help.

My wonderess life companion, poor five-year-old FrankieBernard (red and white AKC purebred) has for the last few months gradually increasing severe allegies--constant itching, scratching, swollen eyelids, inflamed stomach/pelvic area, as well as a few days last week foul breath, which has since gone away..but still disturbing. The vet and I can't quite figure out what is causing it. It's been going on for a few months now, thinking it was the shampoo the groomer used, but that does not seem to be the case, as she uses anti-allergen products and he still itches and scratches weeks after his baths.

The vet seems to think it's a food allergy--but he is only 50% sure. FrankieB has been eating Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Lover's Dog Food (adult) for the last few years and gets Milk Bone Gravy Biscuits two, many four days a wekk for treats, as well as fish oil from SabbyCat's Whiskers dinner and table scraps--mostly meat and juice juices and a bit of morning oatmeal--so we are now putting him on a strict diet of only Natural Balance L.I.T. sweet potato and venison formula and the NB treats and nothing else, to see if food is, in fact, really the issue. We're also doing 50-75 mgs of Benadryl 2x to 3x a day to ameoliorate the symptoms. However...

...I realized that when we were driving back from the vets this afternoon that he did not itch or scratch when he was the car or never when he's outside on our neighborhood walks. Nor did he scratch while at the vets. But just as soon as we got back into the house--the very moment he hit the finished basement carpet just inside the garage door, he started scratching again. So I thought it might be something in the house. I switched cleaning services a few months ago and I am thinking his allergies are because of the Lysol and Bono products that are used to clean the tile and wood floors or maybe the Essential laundry detergent and fabric softener I use to wash his bedding. I am hoping these might be the case... If I can only figure out which one is causing FrankieB's ailment, I can eliminate their use.

Has enyone else had this problem with any of the cleaning products I mentioned or with any of the certain foods listed above? I could really use your help and advice, or maybe any other suggestions as what might be the cause of poor FB's suffering. He just had his first dose of Benadryl this evening and a 10% mixture of NB in his dinner tonight...and he seems to be doing just a tiny bit better. But I'd like to figure out what the cause may be...

Bassets are so tricky when it comes to things like this. Taking care of them is often so life altering. Isn't it????

If you've had the same/similar problems, and may have a solution that may help, please let me know via an email to this address or call me (send a private email and I'll give you the number).

Drools, again, to all in need...and thanks in advance for all your help!
