I haven't had a flea problem in YEARS at home, but there are certain areas
we travel to and through that do, so in the past I have only applied
Frontline before dog shows. New game this year however . one of the puppies
has sensitive skin and a significant reaction to fly bites. She just got a
big hot spot over night, so I bathed her and treated the hot spot and found
ONE flea. One is one too many.
I called my vet to inquire about Trifexis and Comfortis, specifically asking
about safety for breeding dogs. NOPE . none of the oral flea meds are
approved for breeding females and none are even tested for effects on
breeding males. So I have to use a topical or a flea collar (can't remember
the name of that). Flea collars don't work very well on my bassets . they
are too loose and they pull each other's off and chew them. So a topical is
my only viable option and Frontline is the only topical safe for breeding
dogs.
I know this doesn't affect the majority of droolers, but there are still a
few breeders on this list, so just sharing the information.
