[Dailydrool] Happy birthday, Holly!

Since this probably won't be on the Drool until at least tomorrow and I often don't get to the computer on weekends, I figured I'd write today--Saturday, the 15th of June is our Holly's thirteenth birthday. See her picture on the Drool calendar, where she's dressed in her brother Dexter's shades but still keeping an eye on things.

This senior princess came to us a couple of years ago when her people were moving and didn't want to take her along (it "wasn't fair" to take her on such a long trip). Holly strolled into our home and took over the alpha spot in the pack. Jane was probably too tired to put up a prolonged fight for her spot, so amazingly she just gave in. Holly is more of a bully than Jane ever was. She rules with a very iron paw and takes nothing from any hound. Meanwhile, she is as sweet as pie with humans.
 
I have already bought some treats for her. She is allergic to every kind of grain I've tried, so it's Yummy Chummies for the birthday princess, but I'm sure she won't complain. If I can come up with a cake that won't cause her trouble, she'll have that too, but it will be purely experimental, I fear. Dealing with all her allergies and food is a real challenge.
 
Wish Holly a happy birthday as you cuddle your hounds. Thirteen is a good age for a basset, if not as old as dirt.
