Our basset lady Mabel went to the bridge a couple of weeks ago. She had
a tumor on her spleen, bladder stones, and was obviously uncomfortable,
so we did what needed to be done.

We have a trip planned next week to visit our sons and grandkids in DC
next week, so we planned on looking at replacing her after we returned.

BUT . . . . I checked out a couple of basset rescue sites. The Kentucky
one has no furbutts at the present but Ohio did, particularly a
smallish, 40lb, 4.5yo female right up the road near Cincinnati.
However, the rescue works on a first come, first served basis, so we
needed to act if we wanted her.

It turned out that Agatha had been there less than a week. When we met
her, she must have thought our faces needed cleaning as it was lick,
lick, lick. Most importantly, she and our senior hound, Myrtle, got
along perfectly, so home we came and she has settled in like she
belongs, which she does.

The facility we adopted from is The League for Animal Welfare, located
in Batavia, Ohio, just east of Cincinnati. We were thoroughly impressed
with their operation. First, it is located in a beautiful site with
plenty of grass and trees. The facility is immaculate, no animal odor.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they know what they are doing.

Agatha seems grateful to be in a family and we are grateful to have her.

You can check her out on the league's website
