Early last week I posted about my sweet Crackers having to have his spleen
removed because of a mass and asked for some drool. The mass was benign
(hematoma) but could have ruptured and he could have bled out internally. They
did find a small spot in his intestines that was a fairly non aggressive
cancer called spindle cell and they removed that. Unfortunately after the
surgery, Crackers could not keep anything down and was constantly vomiting
and retching. It was a roller coaster for this past week but it finally seems
that he has acid reflux and esophagitis. He didn't get any food or water
or almost a week but instead, fluid, electrolytes and TPN (a nutrient that
goes directly into the blood stream.) This Thurs he managed to drink some
water and hold down some chicken. Yesterday I got to bring him home in the
evening and he has been eating and drinking fine. He is on a half dozen
medications and we go back in two weeks as apparently this takes a long time to
heal. I visited him every day and when I left Thurs nite I had a feeling
that he had turned the corner and would be home soon. And while most dogs
would probably be exhausted and sleep in the car, my boy did his usual thing
of sitting and looking out the window. He is following me around the house
and sleeping at my feet when I sit down.
Thanks to all of you who sent Drool his way. I really think it helped both
of us get through this. Droolers Rule!
