Some may recall that a few days ago I mentioned Sydney-Basset was sick
on a Sunday (of course). Not dash-to-emergency-sick, but
nervous-wretch-for-human-watching sick... definitely not herself.
Withdrawn, sleeping most of time (when she wasn't throwing up or going
outside to, apparently unsuccessfully go potty) refusing food and
treats. I feared a blockage, but knew there were no signs of bloat.
Called the vet's answering machine and told him to expect us on his
doorstep when he arrived at 7:30 a.m.
We met at the appointed hour and she spent the day and night, and didn't
eat for them either, but all bloodwork was fine and dandy and we should
come get her. When we arrived, she came prancing out, more than ready to
leave. Ate her dinner with gusto. Went outside and pottied.....birdseed.
That had been in the Sunday throw-up, too, but (1) we hadn't known she
was eating birdseed and, (2) didn't know it could impact, even if only
relatively briefly.
We've always fed our wild birds and never known any of our dogs to eat
the bird seed, but apparently quite a lot of it had either been blown to
the ground beneath the feeder or the birds had thrown out what they
didn't like. Sydney, being a chowhound, discovered this bonanza and
proceeded to scarf down all she could find.
Our bird feeder has been relocated. You might want to reconsider the
location of yours and save yourself a couple hundred bucks.
Riche (wiser, sadder, poorer)
Sydney (if my ears were longer I could fly!!!)
