Our Charlie has had bouts of pano for the past year. He is 19 months old now, and doing well at the moment, fortunately. The panosteitis has shown up in all four of his legs, at different times. His symptoms are that he limps, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. If it really hurts, he wants to snuggle-snuggle-snuggle, almost like he's thinking if he attaches himself to one of us, that the pain will get better.

If he's obviously suffering, we give him Rimadyl, prescribed by the vet, for his pain. We usually give it to him in the evening, so he and we can get a good night's sleep. We, his breeder, and the vet agree that we don't want to give him the meds unless he really needs it, partly so he will self-limit his activity during the day. But there have been times that we've given him a daytime dose, too.

Charlie LOVES his daily walks, but if his pano is acting up, we only take him for about a half a block. Limiting his activity helps a lot. We also limit his going up and down stairs in general, and even more if his pano is back.

I would guess Charlie has had 8-10 pano episodes in the past year, some lasting 2-3 days, others lasting a week or two. It's been a bit grueling for him at times, but there's not much we can do about it except provide some pain relief and try to make him rest
(Yeah, right, he's still very much a puppy!)

Our last male basset puppy had it, too, not as severely, but enough to teach us to recognize it and not panic.

I hope that helps...
