A Bugler reader asked the following and I'm asking you Droolers for advice:

"Douglas just turned 12 ½ and seems to be doing well. He can still climb on our bed and he occasionally runs across the yard.

Lately though there is one thing& Hes thirsty a lot& but we checked his blood-sugar and thats fine.

Also, it takes him a long time to drink his water& hes always taken awhile(he always empties his bowl, he's not a sipper) so its not THAT worrying, but he spills a lot now.

Ive checked his mouth for problems& loose teeth or sores and its okay. I was wondering, do dogs lose a bit of dexterity in their mouths as they get old?

Maybe its a simple issue of his tongue or lips not working as well as they used to.

Otherwise, he's very healthy, no weight loss or gain, good muscle tone and
always an appetite.

Any thoughts?
