[Dailydrool] allergies

The antihistamine most people start with is benadryl. I would start with 2
tablets 2 X a day. If he is tolerating the benadryl but it doesn't stop the
itching, he is big enough that he could take 3. If the benadryl makes him
tired or makes him bounce off the walls, try zyrtec. The dose for benadryl
is 1 mg/lb. but it is very safe. The vet has me giving Beauford 60 mg and
he is 50 lbs. The benadryl makes Browyn absolutely bounce off the walls. So
she takes 1/2 a zyrtec once a day. She weighs 35 lbs. I know that zyrtec
will handle up to 50 lbs. I am not as familiar with it. If those don't
work, you probably need to see a vet for something else. Hydroxazine works
nice, but isn't as cheap as OTC. Poor Bugsey is so bad that he has to take
Atopica. He does well on it. Don't forget the power of baths. A bath every
1-2 weeks with a good quality moisterizing shampoo can do wonders.
