Harley of Hawaii has at last decided to take over some of the late Commander Bo's duties and reestablish some order in our household. But he is such a gentler ruler! the responsibilities he has chosen to assume are assuring that the hounds get breakfast and dinner at least close to the customary times.

In the morning he does not wake up the momperson, but rather lounges at the foot of the bed checking her state of consciousness from time to time. when she opens an eye, he comes wriggling up alongside her and first drapes himself over her midsection (she is usually sleeping on her back in the morning)' then rolls completely over her so that he lands on his back snuggled against her side in the crook of her arm in the perfect position for getting hugs and bellyrubs. His cheek is next to hers and he sighs contently. so long as the snuggles continue, he is content to stay there. when they stop, both he and the momperson get up and she fixes dog breakfast (while Mila does circles of joy laps through the kitchen and diningroom.)It is a wonderful new morning ritual sure to start the day right. Makes getting up a pleasure.

to remind mom to make dinner, at about a quarter past five, Harley seeks her out and "rings his bells" (shakes his head so the his ID tag jingles against his collar). and smiles at her. Mila joins him and starts "ringing her bells" too. It is adorable.

Commander Bo must have been a drill sargeant at some point. (Am I mixing up military branches). He just barked out commands. Harley must have been in the diplomatic corps. what interesting personalities these furry creatures have.

Harley is also running for calendar hound at Auntie Wen's and requests your vote. Commander Bo will be in the memorial pages wearing his "Elvis" suit. So even if you don't vote for Harley, you'll want to order a calendar. Semper fido. Val, Harley of Hawaii, and Mila
