[Dailydrool] Roland is gone

I lost my one-of-a-kind boy yesterday, Roland, Duke of Ears and OEBE
Potentate. We had many good years together; we walked thousands of miles in
Salem and then in Lincoln City.  We met many dogs and their humans on the
way, and we enjoyed our lives together.

Roland was one of the best counter surfers ever!  His specialty was eating
a bunch of bananas without destroying the structural integrity of the
banana bunch itself.  He also enjoyed snaring whole loaves of bread. He and
his accomplice, Truman, were very adept at opening a locked garbage can by
turning on its side and hoping the lid would pop open. It usually did.

He loved walks and smelling the great outdoors. No one appreciated a
well-kept green lawn like Roland did! He would joyfully take small detours
to walk on velvety grass that particular neighbors cultivated.   In his
younger years, Roland could jump over a standard size sofa from a standing
start. One of Roland's favorite activities was going on a walk in the
neighborhood as school buses started arriving. He joyously greeted many
students on their way home. He boarded a stopped school bus once just to
say hi to the kids onboard.

I rescued Roland about 11 years ago from Oregon Basset Hound Rescue. His
brother Truman was also rescued from OBHR. I feel very lucky to have shared
my life with this noble, sweet basset hound.
