Roland, my best dog and the Potentate of the Order of the Evil Basset Hound
Rescue, is easing out of this earthly life.  He has lymphoma, which
continues to return after his surgery in October.  He's still enjoying his
hearty meals and some walks, sitting beside me on the couch or recliner,
and receiving copious amount of petting.

This is a sad time for me, but Roland and I have had almost 10.5 years
together.  He has been a most gentle dog, in spite of his reputation for
stealing whole bunches of bananas from the counter, overturning and
unlocking trash cans, and one escape attempt which ended with him swimming
across the neighbor's indoor pool before his capture.  He also boarded a
school bus while the driver was stopped to let kids out.  He is and was
extremely friendly to every living creature.

He's telling me it's suppertime, suppertime, suppertime!
