Basset Buddies Rescue of TX is our $5 Friday rescue for
this coming Friday, June 5th. They have 21 seniors so they
definitely don’t shy away from taking the older hounds; a lot
of medical expenses come with those hounds so they could
use our help this month!

Paypal your donation directly to Basset Buddies at this
address: info at bbrtx.org or to debbiesdawgs at icloud.com
You should donate directly to the rescue if you need a tax

Here is some info on one of Basset Buddies' seniors, Murphy: Murphy came to BBRTX as a heartworm positive, tick infested, and very sick boy. His ear infections were so bad, he is now partially deaf and has a constant need for vet care and medications to treat his chronic ear infections. The ticks were so bad, he had to be sedated and shaved and 2 of our volunteers and a vet tech spent 3+ hours on the floor picking ticks off of him. Most likely from all of that, he tends to get Demodex fairly often. When he first came to my house, he did not particularly care for the other dogs in our house. He snapped at anyone that tried to pick him up to help him in/out of or up/down from the car and couch and was very food and treat aggressive. After a lot of medical testing, ultrasounds & x-rays, the vet was able to determine Murphy has a fused back and Cushing’s disease. Murphy has been on Vetoryl since then and now that we have determined the correct dose for him, it seems to really help him a lot. Thankfully his back does not seem to bother him too much and he will now jump (although we discourage it) and allow us to help him get up or down. We still have to make almost weekly visits to the vet for his ear infections as the bacteria continuously changes so we have to keep switching medications. The aggression he seemed to have in the beginning, has dissipated tremendously. He is now the gentlest of our dogs, when taking food or treats out of our hands. Recently, he got really sick and the outcome was not looking to promising. The vet believes it may have been pancreatitis but can’t say 100% since his test results came back as being just below the levels for pancreatitis. Although he seems to be feeling much better, he has been losing some weight so we have had to increase the amount of food we have been giving him to try and put the pounds back on. It seems to be working, finally, but we’ll have that confirmed tomorrow when he goes back in for his follow-up visit with the vet. The Demodex has been gone for a while now and has not reared its ugly head so hopefully his skin problems are behind us. With him having Cushing’s though, that is not a very likely thing. Murphy just wants to be close to us at all times. He LOVES to snuggle on the couch next to me every night and will nudge my hand if I stop petting him. If I’m sitting on the couch all snuggled in a blanket, he will walk up, put his chin on the couch and give me the sad eyes. If I don’t pick him up, he’ll take the blanket off of me, using his mouth but very gently, and then throw it on the floor. It’s pretty funny watching him do that. Murphy is a GREAT car rider and gets excited every time we get in the car to go somewhere. He enjoys going to his foster dad’s soccer games and to visit my fiancé’s parents at their ranch. Murphy has really come a long way. He went from being a scared, anti-social, very sick boy to a happy, cuddly, very social boy. He really is such a sweet, sweet boy and I hope he has many more years with us with as little to no pain, as possible.

Thanks for your support of Debbies Dawgs and Basset Buddies Rescue
