Our late basset friend Owen was on Anipryl for the last year of his life. It cost about $100 a month, and his human, Jennifer, bought it online. It made a difference, though it did not completely mask his dementia. He was anxious when he didn’t know where Jennifer was. He was also clingy. It’s hard to know how much of his anxiety and clinginess were because of his dementia or because of his increasing hearing and vision loss. He was disoriented in the dark, so Jennifer kept floor lamps on the floor to light the path to the doggie door for him, which, fortunately, he never forgot how to use. Owen has been gone about a year and a half now and remains much missed.
