This coming Friday, March 3rd, is Debbies Dawgs $5
Friday. Our rescue for March is Hounds Haven. They
don’t turn the seniors away and will find a place for them
to be safe and get well. Donations can be sent via paypal
to debbiesdawgs at icloud.com Remember, we are a 501c3
charity now so your donations are tax exempt! If you prefer
to send a check, send to Hounds Haven Basset Rescue,
1975 S. 40th Court, West Des Moines, IA 50265 If you are
on Facebook, check out our page to see the senior hounds
that we will be helping with $5 Friday funds.

This past weekend, Marci Thomas who is our treasurer for
Debbie’s Dawgs, and I went to the Suncoast Basset Hound
Rescue Sweetheart Waddle in Ocala FL. They had a table
set for us to use in front of huge x-pen and provided some
senior hounds from their volunteers. Then Debbies Dawgs
collected $5 donations for people to come in and cuddle and
love on the senior hounds. I wish you could have seen the kids
with the dogs - it was amazing! It was a great event and
Suncoast was so gracious to let us participate.

We are entering year 4 of Debbies Dawgs and we hope to do
even more for the seniors in rescue. Once $5 Friday is over,
we are starting senior pawtners. This is a project we do where
we pair humans with senior hounds in rescue. You sign up
to participate and will receive information on a senior that
includes a picture and a small wish list of what the dog likes
and/or needs. You send the hound a package and fulfill some
of those needs. In most cases, the foster family will respond
by sending or posting pictures of the dog on our Facebook
page; if you are not on Facebook, let me know and we’ll make
sure the foster family has your email address so they can thank
you and send you a pic of the dog with whatever you send. It’s very
rewarding to help a dog in rescue. It’s amazing what getting a
package can do for these dogs. Having their own bed or blanket
and toys, etc. can give them confidence and self esteem. It may
be the first thing that they can have had to call their own in a long
time. You can continue to send to your hound pawtner every few
weeks if you like but it’s not a requirement. Some people have
been sending to their hound pawtners for several months.

We do keep budget restrictions in mind so if you need to only
send a few things, let me know and I’ll find a hound for you that
is not that needy or I will send you a hound to share with another
person and give you different wish list items. We do ask that
you have a package in the mail to the hound within 2 weeks
of receiving information on a hound so keep that in mind.

Senior pawtners is my favorite part of Debbies Dawgs - I can
promise you that you will love it if you participate. Just email
me at debbiesdawgs at icloud.com if you are interested.

Have a great week everyone!
