This is Mila, the well behaved basset in Hawaii, writing to you about the human booming and flashing holiday.  I believe humans are close genetic relatives of the warrior-like Klingons on Star Trek and these booming holidays are some of the humans' ritualized battle reenactment plays.  Human civilization has only come so far.  Let us hope that they continue to evolve into a more peaceful species.
