[Dailydrool] Protection bassets

On the last Drool post, Bev talked about her dogs not being protection
dogs. It reminded me of something else.

I would not count on any of my hounds to protect me, but Horton was very
brave--for Horton--this weekend at Tri-State's Howl-O-Ween party.

There was a French bulldog puppy at the event. Really cute (and I usually
don't much like small dogs) and very sassy. Cleo began playing with him,
and even though she's ten, she was having a lot of fun. But puppies being
puppies, the Frenchie started getting a bit rougher than Horton liked. So
even though Cleo was not in a desperate situation, he jumped right in with
a growl and a snap. Evidently Hortie has ideas about what puppies should
and shouldn't do. At one Howliday Party he started telling a basset puppy
off for being too rowdy. (Please note that no one was hurt in either
situation, but I also got right on top of Hort, to make sure everyone was
fine.)

If I was attacked by anyone I'm not sure Hort would move at all, but I was
just a tad proud that he protected his sister, though I'm sure she didn't
really need it. I was reminded of our first basset, Jane, who used to keep
all our young fosters in line.

Sometimes bravery comes in the most unexpected places.
