[Dailydrool] Pack Heirchy

We have had four hounds for many years. Jersey was always the queen while
she was with us and ruled the pack with an iron paw. She and Shadow were
very close. Suzy has always been our odd man out and she is a loner. By
choice I must say. Since Toby has been with us, he and Ginger have paired
up. She mothers him and loves on him and she has never done that with
anyone else. Maybe it's because he came to us as a puppy. Of course, she
tries to eat him every now and then too. The dynamics of our pack has
always been the newest in the pack is low man on the totem pole. I was
worried that Ginger would try to become pack leader when Jersey died but
Shadow (having been here the longest at that point) is probably the leader
now although her leadership isn't as clearly defined as it was with Jersey.
Suzy is still a loner, Gin and Toby pair up and spend most of their time
wherever I am. Shadow is the DH's hound and spends her time waiting for him
to come home from work. I'm going to say they're all friends for the most
part except Ginger occasionally tries to eat one of them and then gets
shunned for a while by the other three.

Ginger has an infected sebaceous cyst on her neck that is really ugly. Took
her in to our wonderful vet and she is shaved and it is open and draining
and she's on antibiotics for now. I'm hoping that she won't have to have it
surgically removed. I always worry about anesthesia with senior hounds and
Ginger is well over eleven now.
