[Dailydrool] Useful commands

My previous girls were all taught the following commands that I found VERY helpful, so I will be teaching these to the little ones:

  * Go left or go right (VERY helpful when Madden went blind! People were really impressed when I was walking 5 bassets on-leash and they all went left or right when a bicyclist was coming up the path!)
  * Left turn and right turn (for when we're driving so they know which way to lean),
  * Wait (especially useful when leaving the house OR the BUV!),
  * Step up or step down (when going up or down steps - VERY helpful after Madden went blind),
  * Curb (when going down a curb - again, VERY helpful after Madden went blind),
  * Up and at 'em (when they were hesitant going up the dog ramp into the BUV),
  * Far enough (really helpful when hiking off-leash!),
  *   Timeout! (all my girls knew when I said timeout that they were to stop whatever they were doing, chasing another dog or being too rough, it didn't matter.  With Sasha, she actually got timeout's where she would have to lay down and wait for me to tell her OK and then she could go back to playing);
  * Leash (that means come get your leash on)
  * Slow down (Madden used to walk WAY faster than Casper, so I taught her slow down. It was so funny to see her literally slow her pace!)
  * Oops - I dropped something (that means I need someone to come clean up the food I just spilled on the floor! The new babies already know this one!)
  * That's the momma's (don't touch it, it's mine! VERY helpful when I drop my medicine or something I don't want them to have on the floor!!)
We are currently trying to teach the puppies Leave it and Drop it. I think they'll pick those up quicker than using the piddle pads! :O} Actually, Sundae is a champ, missing the paper by millimeters if she hasn't gone outside, but Marshmallow still goes whenever the urge strikes, which is why I refuse to let her have free roam of the house! They already know to sit before they're fed and they're learning to go to their spots where they are fed. I'd like them to go there when told, even when not being fed, but it's apparently too soon for that...

Anyways, these commands have really worked well for us in the past and we'll continue using them with the new herd!

Jessica, we are thrilled that Sassy is doing better! Julie we're happy that Gallagher is doing better, too! Diana, Frank and Susan, we were sorry to read about Rooney and Boe! And finally, healing drool to Gus and Nigel and all those in need! We hope they get well soon!! Sorry if we missed anyone!

Hugs!
~Gwen, Sasha, Sundae & Marshmallow~ (:>

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.
