Our first introduction to the basset breed was Thumpy the pit basset. He just showed up one day and stayed. He had the body and legs of a basset but his head was more like a pit bull. He loved Ken and Ken loved him; they went everywhere together. He had a huge personality. Once he stole a pork chop off the table and brought it to me to break in little pieces before he would eat it. Ken decided we should breed him to a basset so we would have more of him. We drove 800 miles to get Bea, our first basset. Luckily I found the DD and convinced him we shouldn't breed them and had Bea spade.
A few years later we rehomed 3 bonded bassets (Willie, Val & Dora). Now we are bassetless; Dora left for the Bridge in August, a few months before her 15th birthday. We really miss having bassets. We have two long leg dogs who picked us and we love them a bunch but they aren't the same as bassets!
