[Dailydrool] Third time a charm?

If "everything happens in threes" -- what next? Or is "third time a charm"? The past two days we have dodged a bullet, so as to continue to speak in riddles....

Yesterday, a gate inexplicably was left open and one dog was in 7th heaven chasing chipmunks. I was getting into my car when I saw her, and at first thought she was on the right side of the fence, then realized she wasn't. The road was about 12 feet from where she was sniffing. OMG. Luckily for us both, she is the ONE (and only) dog who WILL mind and she came running when I called. I put a snap-lock thingy on the gate latch and left.
Tonight, she and our other terrier were doing the "Not Allowed After 10 p.m. Barking" and I called them in and saw that Titan (a huge shepherd who is The Cowardly Lion) on the wrong side of the fence. His tongue was hanging out a mile, so he'd been out for quite awhile and wanted to come home. How on earth he avoided being hit by a car, I don't know, but presumably didn't go out in the road, tho he obviously visited the dog next door, who was hysterical. How did he get out? I don't know. He used to dig under fence, but hadn't in years. Will be checking tomorrow for escape routes.
Please don't let there be a "three"! We just lost No. 4 dog last week and it's incredible what a hole in a pack that one dog can leave... I still automatically put out a 4th bowl and then realize...

P.S. On a lighter note: Every time I write "everything happens in threes" am reminded of the saying, "best thing since sliced bread." What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?
